Albert K. Barume

was appointed as Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples in December 2024. He has over 25 years of experience working on Indigenous Peoples’ rights at national, regional and international levels. He also holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from Yale University and a PhD in International Human Rights Law from the University of Essex.
